WHO WE ARE

Global Assistance For Women and Children is a non -government organization that assists vulnerable women and children who have been abused, marginalized, and forgotten worldwide.

Abuse, rape, and the transmission of HIV dehumanize women as old as 82 and children as young as five years. They become outcasts in the community. Traumatized and infected, they wander around villages and towns without proper medical treatment, food, or shelter.

 

The perfect example is the Eastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where for two decades, the area has been ravaged by wars leading to millions of displaced people dying days and nights. Most of these victims are women and children, brutally gang-raped and sodomized to the cheers of rebels and armed groups as their parents and family watch in horror.

 

While the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially North and South Kivu provinces, have many humanitarian assistance needs, we have chosen to help abused women and children who are so traumatized that they suffer from these atrocities even in their sleep. They suffer physically and emotionally every day for lack of psychological support, medical supplies, food, and shel-ter.

 

The conflict of several armed groups in eastern DRC has caused insecurity in North Kivu prov-ince, resulting in the displacement of thousands of people, destruction of health infrastructure, causing lack of access to primary health care for the population. The rate of health infrastructure use is 20%, and unassisted deliveries over 60%, maternal deaths at 65%.

The precarious situation is often due to total earnings of less than one dollar per day per family, with a size of 10 persons per household. Cases of sexual violence are recorded every day, which are committed by armed groups not otherwise identified (for example, the 1,624 cases in Walikale territory in 2013). Children are left alone, having lost their parents due to ongoing armed conflict in these areas.

 

International communities and humanitarian NGOs are present but unable to reach places to prevent these abuses or provide proper medical and psychological help, food, and shelters. We, the GLOBAL ASSISTANCE FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN, are filling a void by providing much-needed relief.
